When you consign an item to be included in one of our auctions, we get right to work on determining a starting price for a live or online consignment auction. Our qualified appraisers carefully evaluate items every week and look for recent comparable sales. We evaluate cars, trucks, SUVs tractors, heavy equipment, video games, vintage audio equipment, antiques, furniture and much, much more. We’ll answer any questions you may have and let you know what we think your item will go for at auction and our associated fees so you have a complete understanding of the process. You can bring your items to us, or we can arrange to send a staff member to collect them if you prefer.
Our staff works hard at marketing our consignment auctions using social media, our e-newsletter and cold-calling people who might be interested using our database of thousands of clients. We’ll discuss which auction type would be best for your item; a live or online auction. We will get your items in front of far more people than you would be able to using traditional selling techniques.
Live Consignment Auction Day Our staff starts live auction day at the crisp hour of 4:30am. We double check all of our advertising to make sure we have great directions to our auction house. We double check that our parking lot is ready to receive the crowd, everything is arranged properly, all items are tagged, the floors are clean, the chairs are lined up and the bathrooms are spotless. We put out signage on auction day to make sure and attract passersby that didn’t hear about the auction for some reason. We have staff in position to monitor all auction items closely to make sure attendees are respectful and careful when inspecting them prior to the auction’s start. During the auction our auctioneers work hard to energize the crowd and keep the pace of bidding fast and electric. After the auction we typically have two load-out days when bidders can collect any item they couldn’t carry out on auction day.
If you choose to list your item for one of our regular online auctions the item will be open to bid on once the online auction starts. We typically run auctions for seven to ten days total to allow enough time for people to place multiple bids and ensure we get the most money for your item. We monitor the auction constantly and answer any questions bidders might have via phone or email. You can watch the auction on our site but keep in mind that most bidding activity happens within the last five hours of the auction – that’s when the fun really starts!
Once your item sells we’ll send you an invoice within 72 hours of the sale. When you approve it we’ll get a check to you within 10 business days.
Consignment Sales in Kansas City
Consignment sales can be a practical way to sell quality items without trying to manage the entire process yourself. If you have furniture, tools, collectibles, equipment, antiques, household goods, or other valuable items, BB Realty & Auctions can help you decide whether consignment is a good fit.
Not every seller has enough items for a full estate sale, business liquidation, or dedicated auction. Sometimes you only have a few good pieces, a garage full of tools, leftover estate items, a small collection, equipment from a shop, or furniture that is too valuable to throw away but too much work to sell one item at a time. That is where a consignment sale in Kansas City can make sense. BB Realty & Auctions holds regular consignment sales for sellers who need a more organized way to reach buyers without building an entire sale around one household.
Consignment gives sellers another option between doing everything themselves and holding a full estate sale. Instead of answering dozens of messages, arranging pickup times, dealing with no-shows, negotiating with strangers, or trying to figure out what an item is worth, you can start by sending the details through the form above. A short description and a few photos can help determine whether your items may be a good fit for an upcoming consignment sale, auction event, or another selling option.
Consignment can help when you have valuable items but do not want to run a garage sale, estate sale, or online listing yourself.
Items may be grouped into a sale where active buyers are already looking for tools, furniture, collectibles, equipment, and estate finds.
The first step is simple: send what you have, where it is located, and any photos that show the condition and type of items.
A consignment sale is a way to sell items through an established sales process instead of trying to sell them completely on your own. The seller provides the items, and the auction company helps determine whether they fit an upcoming sale. This can be useful when the items have enough potential value to sell, but there is not enough inventory for a standalone estate sale or dedicated auction.
For example, a family may have already handled most of an estate but still have tools, furniture, jewelry, coins, collectibles, or equipment left over. A homeowner may be downsizing and only wants to sell the better pieces. A contractor may have extra tools, jobsite equipment, trailers, or shop items. A collector may be ready to move part of a collection but does not want to list each item online. Consignment gives those sellers a practical way to bring items into a sale environment where buyers are already paying attention.
A traditional estate sale is usually built around a house full of personal property. It can involve setup, pricing, advertising, buyer traffic, sale days, and cleanup. That can be the right option when there is enough volume and the home is suitable for a sale. But if you only have several strong items or a smaller group of belongings, a full estate sale may not be necessary.
Consignment may be a better fit when you have quality pieces but not a full house. It can also be helpful after an estate sale, after a move, during downsizing, or when a family wants to avoid hosting buyers inside a home. If you are unsure whether your situation calls for consignment, an estate sale, or an estate auction, the form above is a good place to ask.
Use the form above to send a short description, your location, and photos of the items. Include details about condition, quantity, brand names, age, and whether pickup or delivery may be needed.
Ask About Consignment SalesConsignment is often best for items that have buyer demand, recognizable value, useful condition, or collectible interest. That can include tools, shop equipment, lawn equipment, trailers, furniture, antiques, coins, jewelry, watches, sports memorabilia, vintage toys, advertising signs, appliances, firearms, artwork, musical instruments, electronics, collectibles, and specialty household items. Some items are better suited for auction, some may work well in a consignment sale, and some may be better handled as part of a larger liquidation.
Larger items can sometimes be worth discussing too. If you have vehicles, trailers, machinery, shop tools, farm equipment, or business assets, BB Realty & Auctions may be able to point you toward the right selling format. The related pages for equipment auctions, vehicle auctions, and farm auctions may also be useful if your items are bigger than normal household goods.
Hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, toolboxes, compressors, lawn equipment, and garage cleanout items.
Coins, jewelry, signs, toys, advertising, sports items, glassware, pottery, records, books, artwork, and vintage finds.
Quality furniture, appliances, patio items, decor, household goods, and better pieces from downsizing or estate cleanouts.
Selling items yourself can sound simple until the messages start. You may get people asking if an item is still available, offering far less than the asking price, requesting delivery, failing to show up, or trying to negotiate after arriving. For busy families, executors, homeowners, and business owners, that can become frustrating fast. A consignment sale can reduce that burden by putting the items into a more organized selling process.
This is especially helpful when you are dealing with estate leftovers, moving deadlines, storage units, garage items, or items you do not know how to price. Consignment can help turn a confusing group of items into a clearer plan. You still need to provide accurate information, photos, and access to the items, but you do not have to build your own buyer audience from scratch.
Many sellers contact BB Realty & Auctions after an estate has already been partially handled. The family may have kept important personal items, donated common household goods, and removed trash, but there may still be pieces worth selling. Those leftovers can be too valuable to discard but not enough to justify another full sale. Consignment may help bridge that gap.
If the estate still has a large volume of contents, the better fit may be estate liquidation services, estate valuation, or the we buy estates option. If only select items remain, consignment may be the simpler route. The best choice depends on the amount of inventory, the timeline, the type of items, and the seller’s goals.
Consignment is not only for household items. Contractors, shop owners, farmers, mechanics, landlords, and small business owners may also have items worth selling. Extra tools, equipment, shelving, parts, trailers, office items, machinery, inventory, or jobsite assets may be a fit for a sale. If the business is closing or downsizing, a larger auction service or liquidation plan may be better, but for smaller groups of items, consignment may be a practical starting point.
Sellers often underestimate how much time it takes to sell business or shop items one by one. Taking photos, answering questions, arranging pickup, and managing payment can interrupt workdays and stretch out for weeks. Consignment can help create a more efficient path when the items are worth selling but the owner does not want to manage every buyer interaction alone.
Before loading a trailer, donating items, or throwing things away, send a few photos through the form above. Wide room shots and closeups of the better items can help determine whether consignment, auction, estate sale, or liquidation is the better direction.
BB Realty & Auctions helps sellers across the Kansas City metro and surrounding communities. Consignment sellers may come from Independence, Lee’s Summit, Blue Springs, Overland Park, Olathe, Shawnee, Leawood, Liberty, Grain Valley, and nearby Missouri and Kansas areas.
Local knowledge matters because buyer interest can vary by item type, location, and sale format. A set of shop tools may attract a different buyer than antique furniture. Collectibles may need different presentation than lawn equipment. Farm items, trailers, and machinery may need a different strategy than household goods. The goal is to place items where they have a realistic chance of being noticed by the right buyers.
The more useful your first message is, the easier it is to determine whether consignment is a fit. Include your name, location, phone number, a general list of items, and a few photos. Mention whether the items are currently in a home, garage, storage unit, business, barn, or shop. If there are brands, model numbers, sizes, working condition details, age, or known issues, include those too.
You do not need to write a perfect inventory. A simple overview is enough to start. For example, “garage full of woodworking tools in Lee’s Summit,” “small coin and jewelry group in Overland Park,” “leftover estate furniture in Independence,” or “contractor tools and equipment in Blue Springs” gives the team a better idea of what you have. From there, BB Realty & Auctions can let you know whether consignment, auction, estate sale, or another service may be the better path.
If you have items to sell and you are not sure what to do with them, start by filling out the form above. Consignment sales are built for situations where the items deserve more than a quick giveaway, but the seller does not necessarily need a full estate sale. Whether you are clearing a garage, downsizing, handling leftovers from an estate, closing out a shop, or selling a small group of quality items, a quick conversation can help you avoid wasting time on the wrong selling method.
Fill out the form above, visit the contact page, or call (816) 820-1124 to ask about consignment sales in Kansas City. BB Realty & Auctions can help you decide whether your items are a good fit for consignment, an estate sale, an auction, or another practical selling option.
