One of the biggest questions we get as Busy Beever is “what can you find at estate sales?” This is a great question, and it’s not one that’s easy to answer with a single response. This is because you can find just about everything at estate sales!
Consider a garage sale. When somebody has a garage sale, they’re basically taking a random assortment of items that they want to get rid of. These items are often wildly inconsistent, since they’re not all being drawn from a uniform category.
You may find a lot of clothes and some old furniture. You might have a baby-centered sale where they’re dumping all of their baby junk since their kids have grown. It may be an elderly couple who are disposing of countless trinkets that could be considered antiques. And, of course, you’ll run into a lot of sales that just kind of throw everything into a blender, having a giant array of items that are totally unrelated to each other.
With estate sales, the same concept applies, only on a larger, more formal scale. You have people that are liquidating their assets, often everything that’s in a house. For that reason, it’s impossible to define exactly what you’ll find at estate sales, since the answer is highly variable in nature and it depends on the liquidator.
However, there are many different types of items that appear with reasonable consistency among the sales we’ve hosted at Busy Beever. Here are some items you could potentially score amazing deals on!
Furniture
If there’s one type of item that can almost always be found at an estate sale, it’s furniture. Make no mistake — there’s furniture to be found at almost every single event that Busy Beever hosts! There’s a good reason for this — estate sales are usually liquidating most (or all) of the assets in a home. Every home has furniture, and in the event that the estate sale is a result of downsizing, the furniture is often too big or cumbersome to transport.
This means furniture is usually first on the chopping block, which is great for you, the buyer! The other thing to remember is that you’ll often find things in great condition since they’re not being sold due to natural wear-and-tear. Estate sales are often triggered by the death of a family member, a need to downsize, or as a means of asset forfeiture. So, unlike used furniture you’d find on Craigslist or garage sales, the furniture at estate sales is usually in pretty good condition.
Antiques
If you can name it, we’ve sold it. Watches, necklaces, bracelets, gemstones, rings, and much more have been sold at our estate options. Many people build up a sizable collection of jewelry in their lives, and as their tastes change, many of these go into a chest or box and are largely forgotten about until they’re sold at an estate sale many years later.

Amazing electronic deals aren’t always a part of the estate sales we host, but they’re also not as uncommon as you’d think.
TVs, video game consoles, expensive watches, computers, tablets, and laptops have all been sold at our events. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg — you may find surround sound systems, nice cameras, movies, projectors, smart devices, and more. It all just depends on who the liquidator is and what their circumstances are.
The bottom line is that you’ll benefit from attending estate sales if you’re an electronics aficionado. It’s not a rock-solid guarantee that you’ll find incredible deals, but if you keep tabs of upcoming sales, you’re bound to find one that will have something that’s right up your alley. Maybe Christmas can come early this year!
Jewelry
It’s not uncommon for the estate liquidators to have fine taste in art and decoration. As a result, you’ll often find that amazing paintings, prints, and other artistic decorations are up for sale. If you’re someone who is invested in the arts, you likely already know how hard it can be to find great paintings at a good price.
Don’t forget that, in most instances, the entire decorative repertoire of the home is also up for grabs. We’re talking table decorations, statues, sculptures, frames, desk trinkets, and so on. Many people who liquidate actually have an impeccable eye for design, and you’ll walk out paying a much more affordable rate than you would at a high-end retail store.

This is another area where it can be prohibitively expensive to shop brand new, but an estate sale is a perfect place to pick up affordable outdoor gear that may very well have hardly ever been used.
Clothing
Buying used clothes isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’re on board with it, estate sales generally offer better fares than what you’d find at a thrift store. That is to say, clothes at estate sales are generally maintained better. The only downside is that you’re limited to the size and fit of the liquidators, so if they’re not a match, you may be out of luck.
Even still, we always see people happily walking out of our sales with new shoes, jackets, pants, tops, hats, and more. Even if the selection at the estate sale isn’t your fit, there may be a selection of clothes that are ideal for someone you know!
Everything Else
Truth be told, there are almost no limits to what can be sold at an estate sale. For the most part, if it’s possible for someone to own it, it’s possible to find at an estate sale.
